A Word From Our Pastor . . .

“A Word for August”

     The other day I was in the hospital visiting a parishioner and when I passed the Chapel I noticed that there was a sign on the door that said, “Spiritual Help and Care, Mon., Wed. and Thurs., 10am to 4pm.”  Now I’m sure that it was a volunteer chaplain who had select times that she/he could be in the office at the Hospital.  But I could not help but wonder what someone would do if they had a real spiritual need on one of the other 4 days of the week, or at some time other than the posted hours!

      I’m glad that God is on duty ALL the time, and that is good news for ALL of us.  He doesn’t punch a clock, or sleep, or go on vacation, or have other more pressing jobs.  He is ready at all times and takes all calls, and He never asks us to come back at a more convenient time for Him.  God is only a prayer away, and said that if we ask in Jesus’ name, He would answer our request.

     As I read that hospital sign on the Chapel door, I also thought about the local church function, and how much better it is than any chaplaincy or TV ministry.  Call any of the TV preachers and ask them to come and see you in the hospital and then wait and see if any of them will come and pray with you and read you scripture right there at your bed!  Don’t get me wrong, the TV evangelists have a good ministry some of the time, but they are no substitute for a loving and caring church family.

      In the Psalms David says that the Lord will always be our help and protection when we call on Him.(27:5)  That means “WHENEVER” we call on Him – “ANY TIME” we call on Him.  Do you need some spiritual help and care right now?  You have two areas of help: you can call on Jesus Christ right now and He will help you – if you trust Him as your Savior, He will turn everything new for you!  Second, you can call on this Pastor, and I will help you as well.  You can respond to one of the phone numbers or to the email address on this website.  God wants to hear you now, and help you now!
